Are Smart cars electric?

I’m looking into buying an electric car, but there are so many options that it’s a little bit overwhelming. I know that Smart cars are an affordable option, but I was wondering if they offer an electric option? The only model that I’m aware of off the top of my head is gas-powered.

To answer your question, yes, there are electric-powered
Smart cars
. Just keep in mind, that while the gas-powered version was marketed at a shockingly affordable $12,000, the EV Smart car (when new) runs about $35,000.
This super-compact EV has some points that you may want to consider unless you’ve absolutely got your heart set on this brand. Keep in mind that :
  • It a limited range compared to most EVs, running about 150-160 miles per battery charge.
  • For about the same price, you could get a used Chevy Bolt EV, which is slightly larger and can run about 250 miles between charges.
  • The Smart car EV (known officially as the Electric Drive) is in high demand, and even before they were discontinued in the U.S. in 2019, customers had to sign up to wait to purchase it.
The Smart car EV might be available in your area, but odds are you’ll spend a lot of time looking for one.
And whatever EV you settle on,
