Are self-driving cars legal in Virginia?

I’m super interested in laws and legislation surrounding self-driving vehicles, especially after a few incidents that have happened in the last few years. I live in Virginia, but I didn’t know if the state has passed any bills or prohibited self-driving cars. Are self-driving cars legal in Virginia?

Self-driving cars are legal in
Virginia
and there’s currently only one law that regulates them in any capacity. Even after a few fatal incidents involving self-driving cars, state governments are still hesitant to make any laws against them.
In April 2016, the Virginia State Legislature passed a law that allows an operator to look at a visual display while operating a self-driving vehicle. This is the only law of its kind in the country and one that probably won’t have much effect on regulation moving forward.
