Are radar detectors legal in Texas?

I love to drive fast, but I hate getting speeding tickets. I want to install a radar detector in my truck so I can always know when police are monitoring my speed using a radar gun. Are radar detectors legal in Texas?

, as long as they’re in privately-owned vehicles.
Here are the restrictions on radar detectors in Texas:
  • Radar detectors may not be mounted on the windshield, side, or rear windows. They must be mounted in a place that will not obstruct the driver’s view of the road. We recommend the dashboard.
  • Radar detectors are illegal for use in commercial vehicles—this includes ridesharing platforms like Uber and Lyft.
  • Radar detectors are illegal for use on or near military bases.
  • Radar jammers—devices that block police speed monitoring devices—are illegal
Failing to obey radar detector laws could result in a misdemeanor offense. When installed correctly, radar detectors are legal in the Lone Star State. Happy driving!
