Are low beam and high beam the same thing?

I’ve had my license for years, but because I lived in a city, I never had a car. Now that I moved to the suburbs, I want to start driving again. That said, I still have some confusion about headlights. Are low beams and high beams the same?

Moving from the city to the suburbs
is a great time to refresh your driving knowledge. To answer your question, low beams and high beams are not the same thing. These two types of headlights have different brightnesses and are also used in different situations.
Low beams are used during regular nighttime driving in cities and suburbs, so these are the ones you’ll use most often. You should also use low beams during rain, snow, or fog. While this may seem counterintuitive, less light means you won’t blind yourself.
Use high beams in rural areas or anywhere there’s no lighting or dim lighting. You should also only use high beams if you’re more than 500 feet away from a vehicle going in either direction.
Since you’re planning on driving again, familiarizing yourself with the headlights is important. But if you’re buying a new or used vehicle, make sure to shop around for affordable car insurance with the
