Are hybrid cars considered electric?

I’m looking to buy a new car and was wondering if hybrid cars are considered electric cars?

Great question on an often confusing topic! While they’re closer than pure gas-powered cars,
hybrid cars
 are not considered electric. Anything that still requires gas (i.e. hybrids) is going to fall outside of the fully EV (electric vehicle) family. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t environmentally friendly or good on gas.
Hybrid’s fall into two categories, one is a step closer to electric than the other. The first-generation hybrids recycle their energy so as to be purely battery-powered when at a stoplight or driving at slow speeds. Now, PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) are able to run on electricity only, for a limited number of miles before switching over to gas. So if you only drive short commutes and never made the switch over to gas, you could, kinda, say you have an all EV.
