Are gas lines covered by home insurance?

I had a leak in my gas line recently. Thankfully, everything is okay and our gas is turned off, but we need the lines replaced. Are gas lines covered by home insurance?

I’m glad everyone is okay! Gas lines may be covered by home insurance, but it depends on your policy and what caused the damage.
If the gas lines were damaged by a
covered peril
, your home insurance policy should cover their replacement. However, if the leak was caused by anything else, you likely wouldn’t have coverage. You won’t be covered for:
  • Age
  • Lack of care
  • Wear and tear
  • Improper maintenance
Additionally, you’ll need to check your home insurance policy to confirm your lines are covered. Coverages and exclusions vary between companies, so what is covered under one policy may not be covered by another.
Finally, some home utility companies or home warranty companies offer gas line insurance for repairs and replacements if anything like this happens.
Once you find out if your gas lines are covered, take an extra minute to ensure you’re paying the best rate with
