Are electric cars dangerous in floods?
In a move to become more eco-conscious, I’ve been looking into buying my first electric car, but I do have some reservations because I live in an area that is prone to flooding. Are electric cars more dangerous in floods?

Great question! Electric cars are no more dangerous than any other type of car in floods.
Unfortunately for the owner of any type of car, flood damage can be uniquely hard to deal with, especially if you live in an area that is prone to inclement weather such as
hurricanes
. While electric cars are not beholden to the same mechanics of a standard gas-powered car, it is still not recommended to attempt to drive yours through a flood.
Like all auto manufacturers, makers of electric cars take into consideration potential risks that come with the operation of their vehicles, and thus put their product through rigorous, standardized safety trials that are required for all vehicles.
Electric cars are also equipped with safety systems that automatically disconnect the electrical supply in the event of a high-risk scenario.
It’s not likely that a small amount of flooding would be dangerous to you or your car, but the amount of risk is never zero.
