Are electric cars better at acceleration?

I’m a personal fan of high-performance cars, but I can’t help but think about the impact of tailpipe emissions on the environment. I know electric cars are an option, but can an electric car accelerate as fast as a high-performance combustion engine?

You may be surprised to find out that
electric cars
actually consistently perform better at
acceleration
than combustion engines.
Electric motors are capable of instant zero-to-60 acceleration speeds because the simplified powertrain generates much more torque than a gas-powered vehicle.
Gas-powered engines do however have an advantage over electric cars in their ability to sustain top speeds. Electric car manufacturers like
Tesla
is looking to close the gap between gas-powered engines are electric motors, touting that the new Roadster will have a range of 620 miles and a top speed in excess of 250 mph.
