Are brake pads covered under Kia’s warranty?

I’ve had my Kia for a while and the brake pads are starting to give out. I think I’m still under warranty, so will Kia replace them?

Unfortunately, most automakers—including Kia—generally don’t include brake pads as a part of their warranty. There may be some exceptions to this, however.
When you buy a Kia, you’ll enjoy the following two warranties.
  • Basic warranty which lasts for 60,000 miles or 5 years
  • Powertrain warranty which lasts for 100,000 miles for ten years
The basic warranty, which is better known as a bumper-to-bumper warranty, is meant to cover nearly every part of your car outside of the powertrain. So why doesn’t it cover brake pads?
Brake pads are a part of your car that suffers standard wear-and-tear, and things that normally break down because of use often aren’t covered by a warranty. Wiper blades are another example of something you may need to replace without a warranty.
A warranty could cover brake pads if they are found to be defective due to a fault of the manufacturer. If that’s the case, you probably won’t be able to drive the Kia for long before discovering the issue.
