Are all of the rest stops on the NY Thruway closed?

I’m planning a road trip from Ohio to Albany to New York City, but someone online said all the rest stops on the New York Thruway are closed. Is that true?

Here’s the full list of rest stops on the New York Thruway and which ones are currently closed. Please note, you can still get gas at all 27 rest stops on the NY thruway. You just can’t use restrooms or buy food at these “closed” locations. Eastbound/ Southbound:
  • Angola
  • Pembroke (fuel only, closed for food and bathrooms)
  • Scottsville
  • Clifton Springs (fuel only)
  • Port Byron
  • DeWitt
  • Oneida
  • Indian Castle (fuel only)
  • Mohawk
  • Guilderland
  • New Baltimore (fuel only)
  • Ulster
  • Modena
  • Ramapo
Westbound/ Northbound:
  • Ardsley (fuel only, closed for food and bathrooms)
  • Sloatsburg
  • Plattekill (fuel only)
  • Malden
  • New Baltimore (fuel only)
  • Patterson
  • Iroquois (fuel only)
  • Schuyler
  • Chittenango (fuel only)

  • Angola
The State of New York is spending $450 million renovating the NY Thruway’s 27 rest stops, with 23 of those rest stops being completely rebuilt from the ground up, while the remaining four will be heavily renovated.
Thankfully, you don’t need to do much planning to be prepared for the NY thruway’s closures. There are plenty of places to stop and get gas, use restrooms, and eat a meal along the way, and you can find all three off most of the exits too.
