Am I able to join USAA if my father is retired military?

Can I join USAA if my father is a veteran? I've heard that USAA has great car insurance rates and I want to join up. I know there are certain guidelines you have to meet for membership.

Yes, you can join
USAA
if your father is retired military.
To qualify for a USAA membership, you must be one of the following:
  • A current member of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, National Guard, or Reserves
  • A retired veteran or former military member with an honorable discharge
  • A cadet or midshipman at a US service academy, in advanced ROTC or on ROTC scholarship, or an officer candidate (within 24 months of commissioning)
  • Child or step-child of a USAA member
You may also keep your existing USAA membership if you are a widow, widower, or former spouse of a member, and you have not remarried.
