It can be a lot easier to obtain classic car insurance through a standard insurance company vs. a specialty insurer. Standard insurance companies don’t have as many underwriting guidelines as a specialty company does. For example, your annual mileage allowed with a specialty company is extremely limited. You may also be disqualified from a specialty insurance company if you’ve got too many tickets, claims, and/or accidents on your record. While it’s easier to be insured with a broad-market company, it often costs a lot more as well.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of insuring a classic car with a standard insurance company?
Answered by Home Insurance, Car Insurance Expert Alexah on February 18, 2021I have a 1965 Ford Mustang that I'd like to insure. I've heard from friends that I can get a lower premium from specialty insurers vs. broad-market, standard insurers like State Farm or Allstate. What are the advantages and disadvantages of insuring a classic car with a standard insurance company?
