Will I be punished by the DMV for lapsed car insurance?
My car insurance lapsed for about eight months. Will I be penalized for this when I go to the DMV to renew my driver's license?
Depending on the state, the DMV may require you to get insurance before you can renew your license. Every state is different in what they require of drivers and how strict they are about insurance. Some states may require you to start filing extra paperwork to make sure you have continuous insurance; other states don’t care as much.
