Is it worth calling the police when you're involved in a minor fender bender?

I had a tiny little accident with another car the other day. I got a dent on my car, but it's still driveable and otherwise totally fine. My mom said I should have called the police to make a report, but I think that's silly for a little fender bender like this. Was she right?

Generally, it’s recommended that you always call the police so that there’s a police report/accident report on file. If you’re ever in doubt about whether you should call the police, it’s better to be safe than sorry. You never know — the other driver might become uncooperative after initially agreeing to settle things privately, or there may be injuries even if you can’t see or feel them.
