How does insurance coverage differ for rental vehicles vs. owned and leased vehicles?

Insurance on a rental vehicle often doesn’t include liability coverage, which protects you if you injure someone else or damage another person’s property; instead it only covers physical damage to the rental vehicle. When you purchase traditional insurance on a vehicle that you own or lease, the policy will include coverage for both your vehicle and others’ property and injuries.
