The pandemic has kept us all more cooped up than we would like. Aside from going to the grocery store,
driving places
has been a bit of a non-option.
Even as travel restrictions have eased, it’s been a difficult transition back into the world. One thing that might help is the app
Drive and Listen
. Loaded with recordings of drives in the world’s biggest cities, the app allows you to experience all the moments of a leisurely drive in new or familiar places.
Drive and Listen features pre-recorded video footage and road noises from cities around the world.

What is Drive and Listen?

Drive and Listen is an app that features clear, pre-recorded video footage of different cities, and it also provides live music from local radio stations, road noises, and other little features that make you feel like you're going on a relaxing drive. With a list of over 50 cities to choose from—each with multiple routes and radio options—users can enjoy hours of relaxation.
The app was created by a Turkish grad student named Erkam Şeker after the start of the pandemic. The immersion experience was meant to mimic drives that he missed going on, specifically his favorite drive through Istanbul.
Once Şeker saw a solution to his problem, he figured others would appreciate feeling like they could drive through their favorite cities again as well.

The setup of the app is relatively straightforward. Once you choose a destination, some black and white TV static will appear for a moment before the video and radio start playing. There is a button that allows you to choose whether the road noise is present or not.
You can select one of the two or three clips for each city by clicking on the city name again. You can also pick how fast the car is going and scroll through a couple of radio options.
The attention to detail within the app really makes it feel as though you’re in the car, driving through whatever city is on the screen. The camera is positioned right at eye-level for a driver, giving the viewer the same view as they would have from the driver’s seat.
The video quality is crystal clear in the majority of the footage, and the local radio and road noises are the last piece of the puzzle. All of it together makes the world around you fade away, fully transporting you into the drive.
