Toyota has been hyping the third generation of its full-size pickup truck, but dealers are expecting the wait to get a new model will range from four months to 1.5 years or more, and nine to 18 months for the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.
Toyota promotes the new Tundra's higher-efficiency engines along with greater towing capability and payload capacity for those who can get their hands on one.

An even longer wait time for a 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

contacted one of Los Angeles' largest
Toyota
dealerships to find out about ordering a 2022 Toyota Tundra, after the company announced in early November that models should start appearing at dealerships before the end of the year. The dealership reported that Toyota planned to ship only 61 pickups to the entire Los Angeles region over the next three months.
The dealership anticipates the longest wait time will be for the long-range 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, at nine to 18 months. That means many buyers actually will be looking at getting a 2023 Tundra. Other models are expected to have a four- to nine-month wait time.
The
microchip shortage
that has been haunting the automobile industry for the past year is the most likely culprit for the delay. Toyota does not take factory direct orders, as most other automakers do, so Tundra fans likely will want to work with their dealer to get the best option possible. Each dealer will likely handle their wait lists and mark-ups differently.

What's new with the 2022 Toyota Tundra?

The better question might be: What's not new with the 2022 Toyota Tundra? Toyota is making its first redesign of the Tundra in 15 years.
The changes begin under the hood as Toyota is driving the new Tundra with two new powertrains—a twin-turbo V6 engine and a hybrid twin-turbo V6. Yes, Toyota has ditched the V8 for a more fuel-efficient V6 but has increased power at the same time. The high-power twin-turbo V6 engine offers 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque while the SR version provides 348 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.
The darling, though, is the hybrid twin-turbo V6 that climbs to 437 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, and a staggering 583 pound-feet of torque at only 2,400 rpm. The hybrid generates this extra power through a motor generator with a clutch located within the bell housing between the engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.
Speaking of that transmission: Toyota introduces its 10-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECTi) on the Tundra. The new 10-speed features a sequential shift mode, uphill/downhill shift logic and TOW/HAUL driving modes.

Interior upgrades abound

The 14-inch Audio Multimedia display that sits atop the center console will attract the most attention in the 2022 Tundra, but the driver also will appreciate the new 12.3-inch instrument display.
That Audio Multimedia display features an all-new Human Machine Interface (HMI) that offers sight, voice and touch control for all the entertainment and navigation options you'll need.
The Tundra offers plenty of space for the family or work crew with Double Cab and CrewCab versions. The Tundra will be offered in SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum and 1794 versions, with the TRD Pro offered only with the hybrid engine. The hybrid also will be an option on the Limited, Platinum and 1794.
According to

, the starting MSRP on the various models, including destination fees, are: SR, $37,645; SR5, $42,450; Limited, $50,595; Platinum, $58,685; 1794, $59,385. Toyota has yet to announce pricing on its hybrid models, so the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is conspicuously missing.
