The Formula One World Championship has never been completely shut down due to COVID-19 and is one of the few events that has been allowed to function during the pandemic. However, they have struggled to find tracks and venues that allow for social distancing and other important pandemic protocols.
This year, the world-famous racing competition will resurrect the Turkish Grand Prix for the second year in a row. It’s set to fill in for the Singapore Grand Prix in race 16 of the tournament, as reported by

The Formula One World Championship is bringing back the Turkish Grand Prix again.

What is the Formula One World Championship?

The Formula One World Championship was started after WWII in 1946. The tournament involves a series of 22 races, with categories for both drivers and car constructors and separate trophies for each category winner.
The Turkish Grand Prix has been featured in the F1 Championship since the construction of its host, Istanbul Park Circuit, in 2005. It continued to be a recurring race in the competition until 2011 when it was removed from the lineup due to cost discrepancies.
The track is 3.31 miles long with 14 turns and runs counterclockwise. It was designed by Herman Tilke, a German F1 driver and engineer who has designed eight other Formula One tracks.
A few of the race’s turns are somewhat famous in the racing world. Turn 8 is the most famous and is considered one of the best turns in Formula One. This is because of its length, which requires drivers to maintain high speeds even during the tighter parts of the turn, putting lots of g-force on the car and driver. The first turn is also nicknamed the Turkish Corkscrew due to its steep decline and sharp angle.

Who is projected to win the F1 Championship?

This year, scores were close between Mercedes-Benz AMG's Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen leading up to the Turkish Grand Prix, at 246.5 points and 244.5 points, respectively. The Constructors’ Championship was also led by Mercedes with Red Bull close behind.
Mercedes’s Valtteri Bottas won the race, but the finishing scores of the top two drivers put Max Verstappen in first overall and Lewis Hamilton in second. Mercedes is still in the lead for the Constructors’ Championship.
Bottas’s win has put him into third place overall. There are still six races left in the tournament, so any of the three top-ranking drivers could take home the trophy, though Bottas would have a long way to go.

Will the Turkish Grand Prix be back next year?

Despite it being back for the last two years, there are no signs that the Turkish Grand Prix will be a permanent fixture in the F1 Championships. However, it looks like the Singapore Grand Prix will be back in rotation next year if all goes according to plan. F1 will also be adding an additional race to the lineup, bringing the total number of races to 23.
