You can purchase a newer Toyota model that the manufacturer certifies as a healthy vehicle. The manufacturer refers to this type of vehicle as Toyota Certified Pre-Owned. But what does that actually mean?
How does the Toyota Certified Pre-Owned program work?
After passing this inspection, the vehicle receives a certificate to verify its quality. Only newer vehicles qualify, so the vehicles in this program can have a maximum age of 7 years or a mileage of fewer than 85,000 miles.
What does Toyota Certified Pre-Owned mean?
The Toyota Certified Pre-Owned designation refers to a vehicle that passes a 160-point quality assurance inspection. A few things make a Certified Pre-Owned a great buy for you. Each vehicle comes with a factory-backed 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty with a $50 deductible. You can purchase a certified vehicle service agreement to rid yourself of the deductible.
Every one of these Toyotas comes with a Carfax vehicle history report. This ensures you know the actual history of maintenance and repairs for the vehicle.
What’s the difference between used and CPO vehicles?
If you trade in your Toyota, your vehicle could become a Toyota Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. The same is true if you sell your vehicle to Toyota, if they get a vehicle from a rental car program, or if they use a one-off on the showroom floor. While some manufacturers create separate programs for used vehicles and program vehicles, Toyota places all used vehicles in the same program.
This makes it both simpler and more complex to choose your used Toyota. That's because until you see the Carfax report, you don't know if it came from a showroom or someone's grandma who only drove it on Sundays.
