background
The Aygo may not be the most well-known model in
Toyota's
lineup, but it's a reliable city car that has been popular in Europe since its 2005 debut by the Japanese automaker. For its third generation, though, the Aygo is being replaced by a more premium version of the car.
Toyota is set to introduce the Aygo X in Europe early in 2022. The X in the name is pronounced cross, alluding to the fact that the Aygo X is a small crossover—the first crossover city car
Fans of the earlier iterations of the Toyota Aygo will likely be happy with the upgrades made to the Aygo X. It may not be a big car, but it’s affordable and you get a lot for your money.
A 2021 Toyota Aygo X

The Toyota Aygo X is similar to the Toyota C-HR

CNET
writes that the Aygo X only gives you one option for the powertrain, a 72-horsepower naturally aspirated 1.0-liter 3-cylinder that comes in five-speed manual or automatic versions.
Car Buyer
reports that the Aygo X has sharp angles and creases in the bodywork that are reminiscent of the Aygo hatchback. A curved rear light design is another signature of the new model.
Like the previous models of the Aygo, Toyota is focusing on the European market for Aygo X sales. While you might not be able to buy it in the U.S., you may not be out of luck if you want an Aygo X-style car in the States. That's because it is similar to the Toyota C-HR, which is sold stateside. The C-HR is more than two feet longer than the Aygo X, though.

You can't get an electric version of the Aygo X

If you're interested in electric vehicles, the Aygo X isn't for you. Toyota isn't offering a fully electric version of the vehicle at launch in an effort to keep costs down. You should get "excellent" fuel economy with the Aygo X, according to Toyota, thanks to the car's light body.
Toyota isn't expected to go with a hybrid model, either, again to try to keep the price of the car low. But if you're looking for something a little higher end, there may be a performance model offered in the future.

Who is Toyota targeting with this car?

The question is what kind of buyer is Toyota targeting with the Aygo X. The carmaker is looking to attract people who like a car packed with technology, but who don't have a lot of money to spend on it. The Aygo X comes with a 9-in. central touchscreen standard as the centerpiece of the tech package. You also get a screen in the gauge cluster and physical climate controls.
Buyers also get full LED lighting, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and an extensive suite of safety features like pedestrian and cyclist detection. A smartphone app even lets owners track their Aygo X's fuel level and track the vehicle. You get all that for a starting price equivalent to just $17,000, and the fully loaded models top out at around $20,000.
Toyota has packed a lot of features into a small crossover with the Aygo X, and with everything you have in the car you're going to need good insurance coverage to protect it. That's where
