The 2022
Ford
Maverick, a new compact truck set to come out later this year, has been met with a solid amount of fanfare. The small but functional nature of the truck appeals to a wide range of consumers.
However, Ford has run into issues with its front-wheel-drive (FWD) model. Customers that pre-ordered the truck won’t get FWD with the 4K towing package.
According to
CNET
, recent engineering and performance evaluations for this Maverick combination have shown subpar results. However, Ford has come up with a plan to keep buyers on board.
The 4K towing package is no longer available for the 2022 Ford Maverick with FWD.

The 2022 Ford Maverick could be a good fit for non-truck drivers

The structure of the new Maverick fits in with SUVs and crossovers almost as well as it does with trucks, as reported by
CNET
. It has a low body which gives it a similar feel to a passenger car and makes it easy to get in and out of.
The Maverick comes standard as a hybrid model. It starts at $19,995, making the Maverick one of the most affordable hybrids in the nation. Both the hybrid and gas-powered models come in the XL, XLT, and Lariat trim levels, with the Lariat coming in at $25,490.
The 4K towing package allows the pickup to tow up to 4,000 pounds but is only available with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. This add-on was originally available for both front and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, but Ford has removed this option for FWD.

Why did Ford remove the FWD Maverick with 4K towing option?

As of mid-August, the combination of FWD and 4K towing was removed from dealer ordering, according to CNET. Ford found that the FWD didn’t meet the necessary standards that would allow the car to tow 4,000 pounds. Ford said that around 500 customers ordered the FWD Maverick with the towing package.
These customers will be eligible for a free AWD upgrade. Ford has offered to cover the $2,200 upgrade cost for every driver that ordered the defunct configuration. The AWD model will let you add the 4K towing package.
If you pre-ordered the truck and don’t want the AWD option, you can keep the FWD without the towing package. The model will still have 2,000 pounds of towing capacity, but you can always cancel your order if you’d rather go with a different vehicle.

According to CNET, Ford’s goal with covering the AWD upcharge was to keep the solution simple while still meeting the high demand for the Maverick. Ford is providing a generous offer to keep Maverick buyers from canceling their orders.
