(EVs) will dominate the auto industry moving forward. Manufacturers have announced ambitious EV goals, such as Mercedes-Benz planning to go all-electric by the end of the decade. Now, Honda is joining in setting electric goals.According to

, the manufacturer plans to only sell electric vehicles by 2040. This will begin with the launch of the Prologue in 2024. Honda has previously prided itself on being at the front of innovation in cleaner vehicle technology.
Honda's EV history
Currently, Honda does not have a fully electric vehicle on the market, but that doesn’t mean they haven't worked with electric before. In 1997, they made history by introducing the Honda EV Plus, one of the first electric vehicles made by a major manufacturer.
Honda then made history with the 1999 Honda Insight, America's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. A few years later, they produced the FCX, an early fuel cell vehicle. They have continued to use both hybrid and fuel cell technology for the Clarity series.

How will Honda go electric by 2040?
The Honda Prologue will launch in 2024, and Honda hopes to sell 70,000 units in its first year. As they launch the Prologue, Honda is also developing their e-Architecture platform, which will be used on future Honda EVs.
With this new platform, Honda will release new EV models to accelerate its goal of 500,000 EVs sold by 2030. This milestone would help demonstrate the viability of electric vehicles. As this market continues to grow, Honda hopes to meet its ultimate goal of exclusively selling electric vehicles by 2040.
Honda believes the unequal access to EV incentives in America will be one of the challenges it faces. Some states have implemented tax credits to reduce the cost of EVs for consumers. Toyota and Honda feel left out by current tax credit plans.
