background
The electric vehicle fever is catching up worldwide due to the eco-friendliness, quality riding experience, and cheap maintenance of the car. This has spurred many leading carmakers to up their
manufacturing
capacity to create various brands for specific markets around the globe.
GM
has also upped its game and plans to launch over 30 new models globally by 2025.
13 of these EVs will launch in the Middle East starting early 2022. Let's look at this ambitious plan announced by the group's CEO for Africa and the Middle East, Luay Al Shurafa.
GM’s new global EV program will launch 30 models around the world.

GMC Chevrolet Bolt EUV leads the pack

The first cars to be rolled out will include the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, GMC Hummer EV, and Cadillac Lyriq. According to
GM Authority
, Chevy Bolt will lead the way in January 2022, followed by Hummer in the last quarter of the year. The Cadillac will enter production in mid-2023.
The new EV portfolio coincides with the automaker's Triple Zero goals: zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion
GM found that electrical technology perfectly fit their goals and invested in its advancement. Other investments expected in the near future include developing and producing autonomous vehicles.
GM announced that it would be investing over $35 billion in AV and EV tech between 2021 and 2025. The investment will culminate in the 30 new models that the carmaker announced during the Arabian motor show.

GM strives for better performance at a low production cost and MSRP

The
National News
points out that the revolutionary third-generation Ultium batteries will power the next set of EVs. These batteries are 40 percent cheaper than their traditional counterparts. The company expects this to lower the cost of production as it increases the number of units produced.
With the new tech and other strides, GM expects to have an EV for each pocket by 2025. It expects the future to be electric and positions itself as the leader in the market when that happens.
The Middle East is a fertile market to launch EVs. First, the region has a high disposable income and potential demand for good vehicles. Besides, the recharging network is expanding rapidly, making it convenient to own an electric car.
Its first vehicle on the market will be the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, which positions itself as an affordable hatchback. It will have a touring range of 400 km, decent stats for a family car or leisure trips around major cities.

Hummer makes a comeback to the Middle East as an EV

Hummer has had a noticeable presence across the Middle East. Its imposing design and practical handling endeared it among prospective car owners in the region. However, its numbers went down due to several uncompetitive models and dwindling sales.
The new Hummer is looking to capitalize on its market knowledge to appeal to more segments. To this end, it will offer the Hummer as an SUV and a pickup.
While the carmaker has not provided Hummer's EV tech and performance information, it is thought the model will come with three motors and deliver up to 1,000 horsepower. It is also expected to have a touring range of 600 km on a full charge and leap from rest to 100 kilometers an hour in around 3.2 seconds.
One awesome feature that will come with the model is the ability to drive diagonally, nicknamed 'crab walking’ just like a crab does. This feature will boost its already overwhelming off-road prowess.
