If you’re considering a Corolla Cross, let this article be your guide. We’re going over details, pricing, and comparable cars right here, so you can make the best decision possible.
What is the Toyota Corolla Cross?
The 2022 Corolla Cross is an all-new model marking the start of a Corolla Cross generation from Toyota. It can be described as a smaller SUV that truly shines for its incredible safety features and reasonable prices compared to some other hatchbacks in the category.
It comes in three trims: L, LE, and XLE, with prices ranging from $23,410 to $27,540. According to Car and Driver, all trims will come with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that carries 169 horsepower. All trims will also come equipped with variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, with optional all-wheel drive.
Additionally, every Toyota Corolla Cross will come with Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of advanced safety features, as well as Toyota’s Star Safety System. Some highlights within these systems include forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, traction control, brake assist, and speed limit readings.
Details of the 2022 Corolla Cross
Although Consumer Reports hasn’t reviewed the Corolla Cross completely just yet, they do have interesting details and predictions on the car, as do other sources like Edmunds.
Edmunds predicts based on the Corolla Cross’ mimic of the RAV4 styling, the interior of the car will be small and compact, but hopefully not confining. Plus, we know the interior will come standard with features like effective air conditioning controls, a wireless charging pad, and an infotainment system. Higher trims will have USB ports for charging in the backseat as well.
Consumer Reports notes that the Corolla Cross has city friendly dimensions, is easy to enter, and that driver’s space is generous in both leg and elbow room available. Plus, the car has convenient storage spaces and a good-sized cargo space.
It’s also important to note that while on their test drive, Consumer Reports found this car easy to drive leisurely, but it required an extra push to go faster, isn’t too agile, and has notable body roll.
While the 2022 Corolla Cross is new, it isn’t too different from some other hatchbacks on the market. One of the car’s closest matches is the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, which carries a price range between $22,445 and $35,645. Like the Corolla Cross, the Crosstrek has good fuel economy—an overall mile per gallon rate of 29—and a slew of impressive safety features.
Drivers who are interested in the 2022 Corolla Cross might also consider the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport as a substitute for the Corolla Cross. The Rogue Sport has a price range between $24,060 and $30,090. Consumer Reports gives it a predicted reliability score of five out of five, plus it also has solid fuel economy (overall mileage of 26 miles per gallon) and it’s quiet for its class.
