background
The Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban are two prominent full-size SUVs under the
Chevrolet
brand. Both models are incredibly popular, but they are not Consumer Reports' favorite Chevy models. Drivers who are looking for an SUV may want to choose one or the other, though, and the Tahoe vs. Suburban choice can be a difficult one.
This is in part because of how similar the two Chevy SUV models are. According to
Car and Driver
, the Tahoe and Suburban are a lot alike. Picking between the two is the difference of choosing one handful of variations over another.
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban were both given low scores by Consumer Reports.

What does Consumer Reports say about the Chevy Tahoe?

In their comprehensive review of the 2022 Chevy Tahoe,
Consumer Reports
gave the SUV a total score of 39 out of 100. This low score can partially be attributed to the one out of five that the Tahoe scored in the predicted reliability category. Predicted reliability estimates how well a vehicle will hold up over time.
However, despite this low overall  score, Consumer Reports gave the Tahoe a 73 out of 100 for its road test. On its road tests, Consumer Reports is able to evaluate every aspect of driving a car, giving models an overall rating and a detailed breakdown of individual aspects.
The Chevy Tahoe is powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine, and the review notes that it is a surprisingly quiet SUV. Additionally, its suspension is strong and helps give the Tahoe a comfortable ride feel.
As for the Chevy Tahoe's interior, it offers three rows of seating, and even passengers in the third row have ample space. The review also notes that there is a good amount of cargo space available, even when all seats are filled.

In the 2022 Chevy Suburban review,
Consumer Reports
repeated a lot of what they said in the Tahoe review. The Suburban earned a slightly higher overall score of 41 out of 100, and Consumer Reports noted similar areas of weakness. The Suburban's predicted reliability score is one out of five, the same score that the Tahoe received.
The similarities between the vehicles can also be seen in the overall power and handling. Chevy's Suburban features the same 5.3-liter V8 as the Tahoe, and Consumer Reports noted that the handling is smooth and comfortable.
It is well-documented that the Suburban has great cargo space, and Consumer Reports notes that the 2022 Suburban continues this trend. The second and third rows of the Suburban can fold down to increase the storage space.

These two full-size SUVs are quite similar. Car and Driver's comparison of the Suburban and the Tahoe notes that both of these SUVs are great. Neither has any obvious advantages or drawbacks over the other.
However, the 2022 Chevy Suburban is slightly more expensive than the 2022 Chevy Tahoe. A base Suburban has an MSRP of $52,900, while the Tahoe comes in at $49,700. With a $3,200 difference between them, it's hard to say that the Suburban's price is significantly more expensive, but it does save you a bit to go with the Tahoe.
