BMW and
Mercedes-Benz
are among the top European luxury car brands, and the two car companies offer similar models and features on their vehicles. But something they _don’t _have in common is the
average car insurance premium
.
There are many factors that contribute to car insurance costs, and many of those factors have to do with your own personal profile and driving record. But the type of car you choose could also have an impact. So even though BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars are similar in many ways, one costs a little more to insure on average.

Is BMW or Mercedes-Benz better?

According to
Consumer Reports
, today’s BMWs are known for their comfort combined with technology, powertrain refinement and fuel efficiency. It’s considered one of the more reliable European brands.
BMW also offers a range of models from sports cars, like the 2 Series coupe, Z4 roadster, and M-designated models, to a wide variety of SUVs. The BMW "i" brand is focused on electric cars.
BMW’s iDrive—its in-car control system displaying the information on navigation, audio and telephone settings—has become more intuitive since it was first introduced in 2001.
According to
Consumer Reports
, Mercedes-Bez features luxury vehicles that have advanced safety systems, great handling with a nice interior, and a quiet cabin. Mercedes-Benz C-, E-, and S-Class sedans, and the GLS and GLE SUVs models have also performed very well in Consumer Reports’ tests.
In addition to the luxury vehicles, Mercedes-Benz also offers more affordable options, such as its A-Class, and GLA and GLB SUV models. There is an electric EQC SUV on the way.
When it comes to reliability, Mercedes-Benz ranks in the lower third of all brands, with the redesigned GLE SUV ranking as one of the least reliable new models in Consumer Reports’ survey.
As you can see, the two brands are similar in many ways. So when car shopping, it’s a good idea to really consider your own personal preferences, and see what each company is offering, in order to make a final decision.
