There are several luxurious SUVs on the market today. Among the top contestants for the lucrative market are the Audi Q7 and Lexus GX 460. They are quite similar in design and have outstanding performance, but their few subtle differences are worth checking.
How does the Q7 compare against the GX 460 in comfort, tech, performance, fuel economy, and general driving experience?

Lexus GX 460 vs. Audi Q7: engine capacity and performance

The 2021 Audi Q7 runs on an inline-four V-6 engine. The intercooler turbo engine uses a gasoline direct injection fuel system and produces 248 to 335 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
On the other hand, the Lexus GX 460 runs on a premium unleaded V-8 engine that uses a sequential MPI fuel system. This engine delivers 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque.
Both models have automatic transmissions. The Q7 has an eight-speed automatic transmission on all trims, while the GX 460 has a six-speed system. In addition, the Audi Q7 uses an all-wheel drivetrain, while the Lexus GX 460 has four-wheel capabilities.
According to New Cars, the Q7 has better fuel mileage at 18/23 mpg city/highway compared to 15/19 mpg for the GX 460. The Q7 also has regenerative braking that helps it recharge, further enhancing its fuel efficiency.

Lexus GX 460 vs. Audi Q7: ergonomics and technology

Both models have a seat memory feature. However, the Q7 Prestige trim comes with optional passenger seat memory while the GX 460 only offers driver’s seat memory. Q7 passengers won’t have to keep adjusting their seats and other features every time they board the vehicle.
According to Asbury Auto, the Q7 features a heads-up display that projects key instrumentation readouts so that the driver can see them without diverting their attention from the road. The Q7 also has backlit controls such as the power mirror, power lock, and cruise control for easy operation at night.
If you go for the Q7 Prestige package, you get optional massaging front seats, which can go a long way to eliminate fatigue during long trips.

Handling and safety

The Audi Q7 has a slightly larger drivetrain, giving it a larger turning radius than the GX 460. Some drivers may have a problem driving the Q7 in and out of tight spots. However, it beats the GX 460 for stability, thanks to its slightly wider wheelbase and fully independent rear and front suspensions.
Both models have child safety locks at the rear doors. The Q7 allows the driver to activate the lock from the front door However, the GX 460 requires the driver to check if the locks are engaged on the back seat doors.
These models have collision brake assist as standard safety features. However, the Q7 goes a step further by offering Secondary Collision Brake Assist. The feature applies brakes automatically after a crash to prevent further collisions that could cause additional injuries.

Which SUV is better?

In the Lexus GX 460 vs. Audi Q7 comparison, there is no clear winner. If you are looking for more power, torque, and towing capacity, the Lexus GX 460 is the ideal choice. However, the Audi Q7 offers better ergonomics, comfort, fuel efficiency, and tech to enhance your driving experience.
