Rally car lovers rejoice! The coveted 2022 Subaru WRX STI rally-inspired subcompact car was recently announced, and it looks awesome. While
Subaru
has a reputation for being a favorite, practical choice of outdoor lovers, the WRX draws its own kind of speed and performance enthusiasts.
Even though other carmakers have started to phase out stickshifts, Subaru thankfully still offers manual transmission gearboxes on the WRX and select other models. Here's everything that you need to know about this upcoming model.
Subaru fans prepare yourselves, the 2022 Subaru WRX STI has been debuted.

2022 Subaru WRX STI: What's new in performance?

As
Car and Driver
reports, two main updates for the 2022 WRX STI are its engine and platform. This probably makes Subaru fans happy since the previous year's model was pretty much unchanged from past iterations.
Its new platform should deliver an improved ride with even better handling. Just watch out for your speed because the WRX is one of the most-ticketed cars.
The new model boasts an updated and slightly larger turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer flat four-cylinder engine. In terms of performance, it produces 271 horsepower along with 258 pound-feet of torque.
While Subaru hasn't released the details about the STI engine specifically, Car and Driver predicts that the engine could produce upwards of 400 horsepower.
As far as drivetrain, the WRX will come standard with all-wheel drive. While a six-speed manual transmission is also standard, you can choose the optional continuously variable automatic transmission.

2022 Subaru WRX STI: Interior, technology, and cargo space

The general vibe of the interior design looks like other recent Subaru models, Car and Driver continues. However, the WRX has some added style with carbon-fiber-looking accents and red stitching in the seats. The highest trim level, the GT, dons Recaro microsuede front seats to complete the sporty rally look.
Another cool feature is the accessibility of the trunk from within the car cabin thanks to a 60/40 split rear seat that folds down.
That's a nice feature and increases the everyday use and function of the WRX for carrying larger cargo items. Of course, larger vehicles like SUVs have the most cargo space.
The tech features some nice upgrades as well, mainly an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. From there, you can control things like media and navigation through either Apple Car Play or Android Auto via your smartphone. This is standard in current Subaru models.
There's also an optional 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

If you choose the automatic transmission on the WRX, it has driver assistance safety features. Some features include things like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and forward-collision warning. There are also lane departure warnings and assistance.
These driver assistance technologies aren't available on a manual transmission, which is another reason why many other Subaru models have started to transition to offering only automatic transmissions
While it may be tough to choose between a manual transmission or automatic on the 2022 Subaru WRX STI, wanting good

should be an easy choice.
