What was the original Ford Ranger Splash package?
The first Splash truck emerged in 1993 as Ford's attempt to build a sporty truck. At that time, there was a demand for a pickup truck with features like a sports car. The Splash package included a flare side bed that was reminiscent of cargo boxes of the ‘50s era.
This style meant that the rear wheels and their flared wheel wells protruded outside the bed. That meant that the trucks were perfect for carrying bulky items. It also came with an aluminum wheel, body-color painted bumpers and attractive exterior graphics.
By 1999 its XLT model featured a 4-pin trailer wiring harness meant for interior grab handles and electrical hookups. That's not all, the Splash came with a lowered suspension too.
The all-wheel-drive was 1-inch lower in the rear, while the rear-wheel-drive was 2-inches lower in the front. However, it still featured the AWD Ranger grillers. Additionally, the AWD models rode on steelers, while the RWD received steel wheels.

The automaker has introduced its new Splash package with the 2022 Ford Ranger. It brings back memories of one of the most popular trucks in history after nearly two decades since its original release.
Recently Ford filed for a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office seeking legal rights to the Splash name. Although that does not mean the automaker will start producing the model immediately, it's a sign that some unique ideas are in the pipeline.
The application covers automobiles, namely, motor vehicles, sporty utility vehicles, pickup trucks, electric vehicles, off-road vehicles, and structural parts. That means that Ford is considering bringing back a modern version of the Splash package.
What you can expect from the 2022 Ford Ranger Splash

Although the 2022 model retains the regular bedsides and stock ride height, it will have special interior appointments and a snazzier exterior. Its Regular package has distinctive orange and black side-body graphics.
It also has matte black eighteen-inch wheels with a twelve-spoke design. The orange accent gets incorporated into the grille nostrils, while other small bits get gloss-black paint. Inside, the Splash has specially designed seats with distinctive orange color stitches.
The Limited Edition will wear exclusive paint colors and be up for sale every few months in limited quantities. We estimate they will be in a few hundred. This model will have black 18-inch rims and distinctive interior and exterior color combos.
The 2022 Ford Ranger Splash will begin with a base model called Splash Snow Edition, which the automaker is yet to announce its pricing. Moving up the trim levels are the XLT and Lariat trim.
