Ford’s
newest small-sized pickup truck is one for the history books. The Ford Maverick simultaneously fits into the classes of pickup trucks we know and love, while also bringing some totally unique features to the table.
But, what’s the best part about the new 2022 Ford Maverick? The base model, the 2022 Ford Maverick XL, is an incredible value for its price. In fact, it just might be the best deal you can get on a pickup truck in the market today.
Drivers get a lot out of the base model of the 2022 Ford Maverick.

Let’s start with an overview of the Ford Maverick XL. The Maverick XL, the base model of the car, will cost you about $21,490 including the mandatory $1,495 destination fee, according to
The Drive
For the price, you get a lot of great features. While admittedly no-frills, the Maverick XL is still a pickup truck lover’s dream.
Motor1
compares the body of the car to that of a Hyundai Santa Cruz or a Honda Ridgeline. But, the Maverick XL stands out from these trucks with one of its most impressive features—the base model comes standard with a front-wheel drive hybrid drivetrain. This makes the Maverick XL the only standard hybrid truck in the United States.
The engine in the Maverick XL is made up of a 2.5-liter inline four engine paired with a 1.1 kilowatt hour battery electric system that together carry 191 horsepower. The fuel economy is also fantastic, especially for a pickup truck, with the Maverick XL getting 191 horsepower.
The Maverick XL can tow up to 2,000 pounds and carry up to 1,500 in its bed. Inside the car, you’ll find standard gray cloth seats, a 4.2-inch productivity screen and an 8-inch center touchscreen infotainment system. Plus, the car comes standard with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

What other models are available?

The Ford Maverick comes in two other models besides the basic: the XLT and Lariat. Both of these models offer an upgraded engine option of a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four that offers 250 hp and 277 lb-ft.
Plus, these trucks can double the towing capacity of the Maverick XL, bringing it to about 4,000 pounds of towing capability. Drivers can also upgrade to all-wheel drive.
The Maverick XLT starts around $23,775 while the Lariat starts around $26,965.

Is the base model enough?

With everything we know about the Ford Maverick, we think the base model is more than enough. As
Motor1
points out, the configuration isn’t exactly truck-like, this particular pickup might appeal to people who never considered buying one before.
For just over $20,000, drivers get a lot out of the base model of the 2022 Ford Maverick. The fuel economy is great, the engine is powerful, the truck is safe and reliable. While it doesn’t have leather details on the seats or fancy technology, this truck gets drivers where they need to go, plus has towing and some off-road capabilities, too.
