Hyundai
showed the world they aren’t messing around with their newest car models when they unveiled the 2022 Elantra N. This sport-compact extension of the N performance sub brand seriously packs a punch with its impressive engine, clean design, and impressive interior.
Here, we’re getting into everything you need to know about Hyundai’s newest high-performance car—including which is the best version to purchase.
The 2022 Elantra N is getting positive reviews.

What is the Elantra N?

The Elantra N is the happy marriage between a sports car and a regular ol’ sedan. One of the most notable features of this car is its engine.
Motor Authority
reports the car comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine that carries 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. Drivers have a choice of a six-speed manual or an eight-speed wet dual clutch automatic transmission. All this to say, the engine on the Elantra N is impressive.
Car and Driver
describes the engine and car as a whole as, “wrap[ing] the turbocharged goodness of the Veloster N hatchback and also new Kona N crossover in the packaging of Hyundai redesigned compact sedan. This is a good thing.”
On the outside, the car has red exterior accents, a rear deck spoiler, and a darkened grille. On the inside, it’s equipped with an easy-to-use infotainment system and comfortable seats. The price range for this car will run you anywhere from $19,850 to $28,250.

Details of the 2022 Elantra N

Consumer Reports
gave the Elantra N great ratings in terms of performance, which makes sense given its sports car nature. The Elantra N earned a five out of five on transmission and braking, and its ability to get from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 7.9 seconds earned it a four out of five in acceleration.
Additionally, fuel economy is a five out of five, with overall mileage 33 miles per gallon, city mileage 21 miles per gallon, and highway mileage 49 miles per gallon. The average annual fuel cost is just $880, making the Elantra N a unicorn of a sports car that doesn’t require you to spend a ton of gas money.
On top of that, the Elantra N comes with all of Hyundai’s standard safety features. This includes things like forward collision warnings, emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, a rear view camera, traction control, and more.

What’s the best version of the 2022 Elantra N?

Consumer Reports recommends drivers who want the 2022 Elantra N to get the SEL trim. They compared the Sedan SEL 4-Cyl CVT version of the Elantra N against the Sedan Blue 4-Cyl 6-speed Sequential version of the Elantra N and the former won out.
Although the Blue scored better on the overall road test—a 79 out of 100, compared to the SEL’s 76 out of 100—Consumer Reports still felt the best deal is with the SEL due to its features and price point.
With the SEL, it might not be a bad idea to upgrade to the Convenience package. With that, drivers get luxury features like heated seats and adaptive cruise control, all within a reasonable price point. But, whichever trim, package, or engine you decide on, the 2022 Elantra N is a solid choice for a new car.
