background
The
Subaru
Crosstrek is known in the automotive world as being a reliable, reasonably priced, and safe SUV. Each model from the car’s inception has stood true to this reputation.
And, as the saying goes, don’t fix what isn’t broken. In the case of the Subaru Crosstrek, car makers definitely took this to heart. While the 2022 Crosstrek doesn’t have any notable changes from earlier models, its great prices, features, and design make it well worth the purchase.

2022 Crosstrek pricing

The 2022 Crosstrek comes in five models: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Hybrid. Pricing for the Base model starts around $23,570, while prices for the more luxury Hybrid model start around $36,770.
According to
Car and Driver
, the Sport model, coming in around $27,920 is the best bang for your buck with the Crosstrek. While we’ll get into specifics of the models in a second, Car and Driver loves the 2.5-liter engine with 182 horsepower and thinks that’s what makes this car worthy of an upgrade in the pricing category.

2022 Crosstrek interior and comfort

The 2022 Crosstrek has a simple, no-frills interior, but it is roomy and reasonably comfortable. For all models besides the Base, we see a leather steering wheel inside the car, and some more expensive models even have orange stitching. All this makes the car feel a bit more luxurious, still for a reasonable price.
The cargo space throughout all models (except the Hybrid) is 20.8 cubic feet when the back seats are up, and that expands to 55.3 cubic feet when they’re down. Due to the battery pack in the Hybrid, it loses a little cargo space, coming in at around 15 cubic feet with the seats up, and 43 when the seats are down.
Consumer Reports
gives the ride, noise level, and driving position in the Crosstrek all a rating of four out of five. They also found the rear seats were a bit more comfortable than the front seats in terms of shoulder and leg room.
Plus, all Crosstreks have a 6.5-inch infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as multiple speakers, USB ports, and Bluetooth configurations.

Exterior and engine

The Crosstrek has a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, which is the same as the Jeep Cherokee. This makes, as
Kelley Blue Book
puts it, “The Crosstrek one of the few compact crossovers with half a chance of getting to locations wilder than a Whole Foods parking lot.”
Additionally, all models of the Crosstrek come standard with all-wheel drive (a rarity in subcompact SUVs), 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, tinted glass, and power windows and locks.
As for the engine, the Base and Premium models come with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower. Like we mentioned earlier, the Sport model comes with a 2.5-liter engine with 182 horsepower, as does the Limited model. Unsurprisingly, the Hybrid comes with its own unique engine: a 2.0-liter flat-4 with two electric motors that are battery operated.

Safety

All Crosstreks come standard with Subaru’s fleet of
safety features
such as a rear view camera, anti lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and daytime running lights. Drivers have the option to add on additional safety features such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and more.
Consumer Reports found the 2022 Crosstrek to be “Good” in all crash and rollover tests performed. Plus, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated the car five stars (the highest possible rating) in crash tests like rear passenger, driver, and side crash.
