Self-driving cars may be a ways off, but maybe not as far as you think. Automated driving systems aren’t necessarily new, though they have yet to trickle down to many lower-trim models. More and more brands are looking to integrate this new tech into their cars in the upcoming years.

Super Cruise will help the 2022 Chevy Silverado stand out
GM was quick to jump on self-driving technology and introduced Super Cruise in 2017. Cadillac was first to receive the feature on its 2017 CT6. It’s been a key piece of tech for Cadillac vehicles and many 2021 models will offer Super Cruise.
Super Cruise will be available on the 2022 Chevy Silverado to help it compete with Ford and Ram in the truck arena. Ford has led sales for years in the highly competitive market, but Ram has been on the rise and some Ram models recently started outselling Chevy trucks.
The new Chevy Silverado will offer high-tech additions like a large touch screen display and premium-quality interior to help it stand out better against its rivals. Super Cruise will be available on top-of-the-line Silverado models to give the truck a better footing in the market when it’s available in the new year.

Super Cruise lets the vehicle steer itself and allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel for extended periods. The system helps you change lanes on its own and even works when you’re pulling a trailer—though it can’t switch lanes while towing.
Super Cruise uses high-definition maps to guide the car and relies on sensors to monitor the road and the driver. It includes an eye-tracking system to make sure you’re still looking at the road and can take over the driving again if needed.
Many other automakers offer hands-free driving assistance features. Tesla’s Autopilot is one of the most well-known. Toyota and Jeep also offer automated systems that can help you park.
Which Silverado trims will have this feature?
As of now, GM only plans to offer Super Cruise with the High Country trim level. However, Car and Driver believes that Chevy will include it in less expensive packages in the future.
Chevy won’t be the only brand seeing this change, either. GM has announced that its self-driving tech will be available in 22 new cars as soon as 2023.
