In KBB’s review of the 2014 model, the truck was praised for doing "most of what the larger trucks will do without the bulk, fuel consumption, or cost."

Besides the Tacoma, KBB named the 2015 Nissan Frontier, the 2011 Ford Ranger, the 2012 Honda Ridgeline, and the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado as the five best used midsized trucks under $15,000.
All of these trucks boast impressive value and capabilities for their age and segment. KBB says the Nissan "outclasses the Tacoma in day-to-day activities"
The Chevy Colorado can pull an impressive 7,000 lbs., compared to the Frontier and Tacoma’s 6,500 lbs. and the Ridgeline’s 5,000 lbs.
The Honda Ridgeline boasts a smoother ride than the trucks on the list. But none of them outdo the Tacoma in reputation or brand power.
