Exciting new companies sometimes fall into the personality cult trap. From the time that wearing a hoodie to work was still avant garde to about five minutes ago, Silicon Valley founders like Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey reveled in the worship of countless nerds.
And their influence couldn’t come close to the all-powerful magnetism of Steve Jobs, the man who pulled the sword out of the cult of personality stone in the first place.
EV companies
are not exempt from this quirk (paging Elon Musk), but one company seems to have avoided this pitfall—at least so far. And it’s not because its co-founders aren’t interesting.

Geeta Fisker: EV icon in the making

Geeta Gupta Fisker was born in India and had what she calls a “tough, humble childhood” in an interview with
Welum
Drawn from a young age to science, she got her bachelor’s degree in zoology and animal biology, and then a master’s degree in biotechnology from the University of Kent. She then followed her interests to Cambridge, where she got her Ph.D. in biotechnology.
Her expertise in the field of biotechnology notwithstanding, Dr. Fisker then turned her attention to her other passions: numbers and finance. She joined Lloyds Banking Group in 2004, where she managed international investments.
Her career continued to expand in subsequent years, and by the time 2011 rolled around, she had established herself as a major player in the world of finance and investment. It was in this year that she met an automotive designer named Henrik Fisker. By the next year, they were married.

Geeta Fisker and Fisker Inc.

The Fiskers quickly proved to be a formidable pairing. Their joint EV venture, Fisker Inc., went public in October 2020 to the tune of billions, reports
Forbes
. And this was due in large part, says Geeta Fisker, to the husband-and-wife team’s complementary skills.
She calls their balancing act “right-brain/left-brain-type” in the same Forbes article: “Right brain is the creative side, so that's Henrik. The left side is the data-driven analytical brain. That would be me.”
However the sausage is being made, it’s already a diner fan favorite. Fisker Inc. has already seen hundreds of pre-orders on its Model X-esque Ocean, which is slated to start production in November 2022. The Fisker Ocean is a beautiful vehicle, and it’s also on the cheaper side for its class, at $37,499 base.
This is thanks, says Forbes, to an outsourcing business model—Fisker saves majorly on overhead by skipping the build-a-factory step of the car-making process, choosing instead to grab parts from existing firms. We can guess whose financial acumen was deployed for that decision.
It’s no wonder that Fisker Inc. is already making a splash with someone like Geeta Fisker in the CFO seat. Too late to reserve an Ocean?
