Hyundai Kona Electric

Starting MSRP: $37,390
EPA-estimated range: 258 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 8.5/10
Hyundai
has made waves in the auto industry with its impressive line-up of EVs. Beyond quality and performance, Hyundai is all about affordability. Enter, the Kona Electric.
The
Hyundai Kona Electric
comes equipped with a solid range of up to 258 miles on each charge, which outpaces many of its competitors. Since it’s essentially a mid-size SUV, the Kona Electric has a spacious interior that its pricier sedan counterparts can’t match.

Mini Cooper SE

Starting MSRP: $30,750
EPA-estimated range: 110 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 6/10
The
Mini Cooper SE
is an excellent compact car at an excellent price. Mini Coopers have a reputation for being fun cars to drive. Not only does the Cooper SE live up to this reputation but it looks cool too. Check out the electrical-socket-style wheels!
Sure, the Mini Cooper SE doesn’t have the longest range on the market, but its 50-kilowatt fast charger makes recharging a breeze. One mini 30-minute break and your Cooper SE will be back to an 80% charge.
This small-size car with its even smaller-size price tag allows for an affordable entry into the world of EVs.

Tesla Model 3

Starting MSRP: $39,990
EPA-estimated range: 263 to 353 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 8.5/10
Tesla
is synonymous with luxury, and luxury is usually synonymous with a lot of dollar signs. The
Tesla Model 3
, however, has another synonym to its name: affordability
You don’t get all the bells and whistles of other Tesla models as you do with the Model 3, but you still get super quality performance that outshines most of the other EVs on our list.
The Tesla Model 3 has a powerful range that can keep you going for up to 350 miles (263 on the base model). No other car in its class can compete with that.
The interior can be a little bare for some drivers, but the Model’s 3 glass roof and large windows help you forget about the interior minimalism pretty quickly. And what it lacks in extra features, it makes up for in a comfortable, smooth, and relaxing long-range ride.

Mazda MX-30

Starting price: $33,470
EPA-estimated range:100 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 7/10
If you want to zoom, zoom in a Mazda EV at an affordable price then it’s time to hop behind the wheel of the MX-30. This EV from the Japanese automaker is one of the cheapest electric cars on our list.
But that low price point starts to make sense when you see that the MX-30 only gets 100 miles to the charge. However, if you’re specifically looking for a daily commuter and have easy charging access, 100 miles is plenty!
Outside of its EV components, the MX-30 offers a smooth and quiet ride with a spacious cabin and high-end interior. On top of that, it just looks cool with its unique
flex doors
and fierce crossover design. No doubt, the MX-30 is sure to give you some solid curb appeal when cruising around town.

Chevrolet Bolt

Starting MSRP: $31,500
EPA-estimated range: 259 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 8/10
The low price point of the
Chevrolet Bolt
should entice anybody who’s thinking about entering the EV market. While it may not be the most luxurious EV on the road, the Bolt achieves a range of 259 miles on a single charge!
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a car with a range so high for a price so low. You’ll also be pleased to know that you can add up to 100 miles of range every 30 minutes at Level 3 charging stations thanks to the Bolt’s DC fast-charging capability.

Nissan Leaf

Starting MSRP:$27,400
EPA-estimated range: 149
Car & Driver Rating: 6.5/10
There aren’t many electric cars that are cheaper than the
Nissan Leaf.
It may not have the highest Car & Driver rating on our list but its range of 149 is not the lowest, either. Moreover, you can get additional battery range for up to 200 miles if you upgrade to the Leaf Plus.
Like the Mazda MX-30, the Leaf is an excellent commuter car for getting around town. It’s also quite comfortable for a smaller size car and comes with a host of tech features—like an 8.0-inch infotainment display.

Kia Niro EV

Starting MSRP: $39,090
EPA-estimated range: 239 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 8/10
The
Kia Niro
is an excellent blend of long-range driving and infotainment with a relatively low price tag for a handsome crossover SUV.
Reaching up to 239 miles per charge, the Kia Niro EV keeps you on the road longer than many in its class. It has high marks in drivability and performance thanks to its array of driver-assist features. Anyone looking to go green can get a lot out of this daily commuter.

Volkswagen ID.4

Starting MSRP: $41,190
EPA-estimated range: 240 to 260 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 8/10
If you were holding out on an electric vehicle because you didn’t think there were enough affordable SUV options, then look no further than the
Volkswagen ID.4
. This compact SUV from
the German automaker
sets the standard for its class, and man—did it set the standard high!
Beyond its stunning and aerodynamic looks, the ID.4 can last an impressive 260 miles on a single charge with fast-charging capabilities to boot.
Its available all-wheel-drive technology means you get a second electric motor at the front wheels, providing for both quicker acceleration and intelligent handling by distributing the extra power where it’s needed most.
This tech-savvy EV also offers an ultra-spacious cabin where it houses an impressive number of standard features to enhance your driving experience.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Starting MSRP: $42,895
EPA-estimated range: 305 miles
Car & Driver Rating: 9.5/10
Ford
may be newer to the EV market, but they are putting their nearly 120 years of experience in the automobile industry to great use when it comes to their electric models. Perhaps none are more exciting than the
Ford Mustang Mach-E
Sure this entry may be a bit pricier for a list of affordable EVs, but it’s such a blast to drive! And with a 9.5/10 Car & Driver rating, we think the
Mustang Mach-E
is a steal even with a price tag above 40k!
The Mach-E maintains the spirit of the
Mustang
along with much of its significant horsepower capabilities, and it trades away its gas-guzzling reputation for pure EV power—305 miles of driving range to be exact—making it one of the hottest muscle cars on the road today.
