What to Expect from the Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 will be the next offering from Volvo’s sister brand. How will it validate its $75,000 estimated price tag?

The Polestar 3 gives you everything you’d expect from a
luxury car
with an electric powertrain.
The new brand, which started as Volvo’s electric performance brand, has quickly become a tough competitor for other European automakers trying to grab hold of the EV market like Porsche and Mercedes.
But you can already see Polestar expanding its horizons. For 2022, it dropped the price of its
Polestar 2
by $14,000.
The Polestar 3 will replace its predecessor as the brand’s more opulent option.
Jerry
dug around to find more details about the brand and its upcoming electric car.

Polestar’s trajectory

Polestar is older than you think. It began back in 1996 as Volvo’s racing partner, but the Swedish automaker acquired it in 2015. Two years later, it separated from Volvo again, this time as a hybrid electric car brand.
The Polestar 1 was followed by a much more modest but fully electric model. The Polestar 2 started over $95,000 cheaper than its predecessor and positioned itself to compete with the
Tesla Model S
and other high-end EVs entering the market in 2021.
For 2022, Polestar dropped the 2’s starting price from $61,000 to the much more Volvo-like price of $47,000.
Car and Driver
expects the Polestar 3 to take on its predecessor’s original position, starting at an estimated $75,000 while the 1 maintains its role as the brand’s flagship model.

Polestar 3: the specs

The Polestar 3 will offer some of the auto industry’s latest gadgetry. Active
safety features
will include all the mainstays—blindspot warnings, automated emergency braking—plus Volvo’s lidar technology which will eventually enable full self-driving.
In terms of its drivetrain, drivers have the option between a one-motor or two-motor system. It will sit on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, which has been said to offer a range of up to 310 miles.
Even though it will be manufactured in the same American facility as the largest of
Volvo’s SUVs
, the XC90, the Polestar 3 will likely not share many other traits with its sister-brand’s offerings beyond the platform.
The brand has slowly begun to distance itself from Volvo, developing its own look and using higher-grade components.

What will coverage cost for a Polestar 3?

We can’t know exactly where
car insurance
will stand on the Polestar 3 yet, but a look at some comparable models might help us get a general idea of what to expect.
Tesla’s Model 3
and Model S both average out to around $3,100 a year for coverage. The Polestar’s luxury status and electric powertrain might result in a similar average rate, but its Volvo-designed safety features could help bring that number down, too.
No matter where average rates land, any Polestar customer should shop with Jerry for coverage before signing any policy. A licensed broker that offers end-to-end support, the Jerry app gathers affordable quotes, helps you switch plans, and can even help you cancel your old policy.
And to ensure you always have the lowest rate, Jerry will send you new quotes every time your policy comes up for renewal, so you’re always getting the coverage you want at the best price.
