The starting price 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge is $51,700. Currently, most EVs produced by major automobile manufacturers fall into the range of $40,000 to $60,000 — so the XC40 Recharge falls right in the middle.

What is the cheapest Volvo XC40 EV?

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric Core P8 is the cheapest version of the EV you can purchase at $51,700
However, “cheapest” is probably too harsh of a word to use. We’ll go with “least expensive” instead because this EV absolutely embodies the luxurious nature of a Volvo — even at a baseline level.
BUT WAIT, there's more (technically less)! The 2022 XC40 Recharge also qualifies for a $7,500 tax credit, which can bring your starting price down to $44,200. Learn how to apply for this incentive by following the link below!

Is a Volvo XC40 Recharge EV worth it?

As mentioned earlier, the most common price range for an EV in 2022 is between $40,000 and $60,000 (before the electric tax credit). So the question is this — what kind of value is the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge at $51,700?
Let’s answer this question by looking at both ends of the spectrum. In the following sections, we’ll see how good of a deal the Volvo XC40 Recharge is by comparing it to the $65,990 Tesla Model Y and the $39,950 Hyundai Ioniq 5.

What is the horsepower of a Volvo XC40 EV?

Two electric motors help the Volvo XC40 Recharge produce an impressive power output of 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque. That translates to a zero to 60 potential of 4.3 seconds, which edges out the Tesla Model Y Long Range (but not the Performance trim) and leaves the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in its dust.

What is the range of the Volvo XC40 EV?

Thanks to a 78 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Volvo XC40 Recharge can cover 223 miles on a single charge. However, both the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5 are capable of achieving over 300 miles per charge. But if you’re only using the XC40 Recharge for your daily commute, 223 miles of all-electric range is plenty to get the job done.

Is the Volvo XC40 EV reliable?

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is already making headlines! But not in a good way. More than 5,300 units have recently been recalled in the United States.
Here’s a report on the issue from
Electrive
: “Water could enter a wiring harness, cause corrosion in the accelerator pedal’s internal circuitry and distort signals from the pedal. Possible consequences include unintended acceleration or loss of drive.”
According to the report, the issue can be avoided entirely by bringing your vehicle into the local dealership and having them replace the harness and install a capillary breaking splice.
But honestly, this is one scenario where all publicity is not good publicity. Volvo will need to do a better job in the future to restore consumer confidence around reliability.
