As 2022 begins to come to a close, car brands are reporting completed and expected auto sales for the rest of the year, and Tesla has two vehicles in the top 25 best-sellers of 2022.
The Tesla Model Y is available in two trims: the Long Range, which offers 330 miles of range, and the Performance, which offers 303 miles of range. Prices start at about $67,000 and go up to just over $71,000.
Tesla vehicles are not cheap, and the Model Y is no exception. But for the price, drivers get great acceleration, with the Performance able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, incredible fuel economy ratings of over 100 mpg in both vehicles, a comfortable interior, and state of the art technology.
All of these reasons and more are likely why the Tesla Model Y ended up in so many driveways this year.
The Tesla Model 3 comes in three trims—Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range, and Performance—with a price range a little less expensive than the Tesla Model Y. Model 3 prices start around $48,000 for the Rear-Wheel Drive and increase to about $65,000 for the Performance.
The Long Range can go 358 miles before it needs a charge, while the Performance gets 315 miles and the Rear-Wheel Drive gets 272 miles. Like in the Model Y, the Performance Model 3 has the best acceleration, getting from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
All Tesla Model 3 vehicles come with luxury Tesla perks like semi-autonomous driving, heated seats, and updated technology.
More best-selling vehicles for 2022
Besides the two Tesla vehicles on the list, most of the best-sellers this year were still gas-powered. The number one best-selling vehicle of the year was the Ford F-Series, which blew every competitor out of the water with 467,307 units sold. There is an electric F-150 Lightning that has sold 8,760 units this year.
The most popular vehicles after the F-Series were also pickup trucks—the Chevy Silverado and Ram Pickup. The Silverado came in second with 374,479 units sold and the Ram in third with 363,089 units sold.
While two Tesla electric vehicles made the list, it’s clear that in 2022, United States drivers loved pickup trucks.
