Tesla’s newest factories in Berlin and Austin, Texas have both struggled to produce cars in a timely manner. The Berlin factory still only produces black and white Teslas, despite Elon Musk claiming it would be home to the world’s most sophisticated paint shop.
Yet despite some hiccups along the way, Tesla has managed to pump out 850,000 units from Q1 2022 to Q2 2022 alone, according to
InsideEVs
. Their Fremont factory saw about a 10% increase in production capacity as well. How is Tesla managing to catch back up after so many issues?
Tesla is able to move more quickly now because both the Berlin and Austin sites are now officially at an production capacity of 250,000 vehicles per year.
Electrek estimates that the quarter million vehicle output could even be low-balling it, with the Berlin and Austin Gigafactories having potential for 500,000 vehicles or more per year.
Which Tesla factory is the most productive?
According to Tesla, the
Shanghai factory
makes upwards of 750,000 vehicles annually, more than any other Tesla factory is able to match. Tesla’s Shanghai location currently manufactures the Model Y and Model 3. The Shanghai factory was also shut down for most of Q2, which further hampered Tesla’s annual production goals. Although it may commonly seem like rumors about Tesla are more common than solid information, automotive reporting authorities like Electrek have learned to rely on Tesla’s quarterly reports for solid answers and insight.
