SUPER73 Debuts a New Electric Motorcycle

The electric bike brand SUPER73 is planning on producing an electric motorcycle, and while it still has some bike-like elements, it is a motorcycle so you’ll need a license to operate it.

In the emerging world of electric vehicles, it’s easy to overlook the growing market of electric-powered
motorcycles
. While Tesla and Ford's Mach-E Mustang are getting most of the headlines, other carmakers are
quietly developing electric motorcycles
Such is the case for SUPER73, which until recently, was only known for making e-bikes.

Meet SUPER73

SUPER 73 is a startup company born in Irvine, California. In 2016, the five co-founders of the company were able to shore up $444,000 from a Kickstarter campaign to build an electric bike. Since then, the company has gone on to be wildly successful.
While everyone knows what an e-bike is today, that wasn't the case in 2016. Part of the rise in popularity of e-bikes is due to SUPER73. The company does build excellent e-bikes, but they have also had a brilliant marketing campaign. They were able to leverage social media and pop culture to bring e-bikes to the forefront.
However, there is no rest for the ambitious. After becoming the brand for e-bikes, SUPER73 wants to branch out into the world of electric motorcycles.

What is the SUPER73 C1X?

Many SUPER73 vehicles have straddled the line between e-bikes and motorcycles. That is no longer the case with the C1X. The SUPER73 C1X is fully committed to being a motorcycle, as it requires having a license to drive one legally.
Still, the C1X has some bike-like characteristics, as documented by
electrek
. It is light by motorcycle standards only weighing 300 pounds, but it can reach a top speed of 75 mph, which is certainly more motorcycle-like. But what really pushes it into the motorcycle category is that there are no pedals. All the power will come from what's stored in the battery.
SUPER73 has been somewhat secretive about the battery. At a press conference, it was announced that it would have a range of 100 miles, but the actual kWh has yet to be disclosed. How much of the 100 miles can be used on the highway is also unknown.
The C1X will have a chain drive. This means it will be a little noisier than other e-motos that utilize a belt drive. It is expected that a SUPER73 C1X will produce about the same amount of noise as an electric-powered chainsaw.

Buying a SUPER73 C1X

Hopefully, you're not too excited about the new SUPER73 C1X, because the production won't begin for some time. Currently, production is scheduled to begin in late 2023. But if you want to be the first one on your block with a C1X, SUPER73 is accepting $73 reservations.
While the C1X can take SUPER73 to the next level, we aren't holding our breath just yet. There have been countless electric ambitions from numerous carmakers that have yet to make it to fruition. It is unclear if the SUPER73 C1X will be the next Tesla or the next Jaguar e-class.
