With everything going in the direction of electric, you know
Chevy
is going to cash in on the opportunity to get their foot in the door. With the release set for spring 2023, the Silverado EV offers everything we love about a pickup—power, durability, towing capability—plus some.
There’s a big crowd of pickup truck lovers out there, and nothing says a classic pickup like the
Chevy Silverado
. While driving a truck is a one-of-a-kind experience, filling up the gas tank can leave you feeling empty. Luckily, there will soon be a way you can have your cake and eat it, too: an electrified Silverado. With the all-new pickup designed from the ground up as an EV, GM President Mark Reuss is particularly excited about its potential in the fleet and commercial space—but how does the Silverado EV look as a daily driver?

Does Chevrolet have an electric truck?

Short answer: Yes.
While you may not be able to physically get behind the wheel of the Chevy Silverado EV just yet, you will be able to come spring 2023. The Chevrolet Silverado EV comes in with a whopping 400-mile range, making it a serious competitor for the EV superstar
Tesla
Cybertruck with its 300 to 500-mile range. And with over 100,000 reservations made for the electric pickup in less than a month, it’s one of Chevy’s most sought-after vehicles.
And if there’s one trick in the books to increase hype around a car release, it’s a limited-run launch edition. For the Silverado electric truck, that was the RST—but if you’re hoping to get on the list, it sold out in 12 minutes.
Although Chevy has had an EV out for several years and has plans to release a more extensive lineup within the next few years, their direct competitors,
Ford
, were the first to release the all-electric
F150 Lightning
. But GM CEO Mary Barra is convinced that the Silverado EV is worth the wait. With superior range, faster fast-charging, and four-wheel steeringSuperCruise, the Silverado EV offers more space, flexibility, and a driving experience that can’t be beaten

What we know about the Silverado EV so far

Sharing a powertrain with the Hummer EV, the Chevy Silverado EV isn’t as futuristic as other EVs on the market—it retains many of the classic features of a Chevy pickup, just greener.
The Silverado electric truck is powered by two electric motors that provide robust acceleration and spectacular performance. Featuring GM’s Ultium battery technology, which can create a battery as large as 200-kWh, the Chevy Silverado EV gets an estimated 400-mile driving range on a single charge, with fast-charging capabilities that can add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. And with power like never before, the launch edition RST boasts 664 hp, so all you’ll have to worry about is how big of a cloud of dust you leave behind.
And unlike some pickups, all-wheel drive and a four-wheel steering system come standard on all trim levels. With an off-road performance trim like the Trail Boss, you can expect locking differentials, rugged all-terrain tires, and other off-road-ready items. Plus, the 10,000-pound towing capacity means there are few limits on what you can do with your Silverado EV. Chevy even claims a 20,000-pound towing capacity model will eventually join the lineup.
For its launch, the Silverado EV will be offered in the budget-friendly Work Truck (WT), the off-road Trail Boss, and the fully-loaded RST, but mid-range trims will likely be added after launch. While the WT may feature the basics, you’re missing out on some of the truck's coolest features, so if you’re planning to get behind the wheel of the Silverado EV, you might want to opt for the Trail Boss or RST, or wait for a comfortably-equipped mid-range trim.

Chevrolet’s electric future

Chevy had the
Volt
, which has been transformed into the
Bolt
and the Bolt EUV—and there are plans for plenty more. Behind the Silverado EV, Chevy has the Equinox EV and Blazer EV set for release in 2023 and 2024, with more coming up. Barra states that GM has the capacity to produce over 1 million EVs in North America and China by the end of 2025, on top of more than 400,000 EVs in 2022 and 2023
The lineup may be small, but GM has committed to an electric future. Powered by their very own Ultium electric vehicle battery, GM’s EVs are built for range, power, and flexibility

The future of car insurance shopping

Switching to an electric or hybrid vehicle can be a blessing for your fuel budget, but when it comes to finding cheap
car insurance for a green car
, the savings might not be in your favor. Specialized parts and maintenance requirements for an EV are typically greater than their gas-powered cousins; plus, the value of an EV is higher than most other new cars. The result? An insurance premium that isn’t so wallet-friendly.
That’s why having a backup plan in your back pocket can pay off.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
