The Concept XM first made waves during its debut in late 2021, sparking controversy with bold, unexpected design elements. Anticipation continues to build as car enthusiasts await the official debut in September.
The BMW XM appears to be the perfect marriage of power and luxury
While the XM’s exact dimensions have yet to be released, it’s speculated to be somewhere between the X5 and X7 in length, while sporting a lower roofline.
The plug-in hybrid model still comes equipped with a roaring 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, in addition to the lithium-ion battery pack. It’s speculated that the battery pack will have about 30 miles of driving range on its own. Together, the electric motor and powerful V8 engine produce a whopping 644 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
With all of its eyecatching design elements and impressive specs, does the XM deliver on the driving experience? Critics reported that a test drive on an initial prototype gave everything it promised and then some.
Instant electric torque combined with strong V8 output means that this SUV can’t be topped in terms of speed, power, and precision. In standard drive mode, the hybrid powertrain takes over for a seamless, quiet ride.

The BMW XM doesn’t make its official debut until September 2022, and will eventually go into production at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in December. The first cars are expected to land in North American dealerships by March of 2023.
