The Hummer EV Pickup was unveiled in October 2020. It was a triumphant return for the Hummer brand, born from a bold reimagining by GMC.
When it was first introduced, the Hummer was roundly criticized for its horrendous gas mileage, which hovered around 14 mpg. In 2010, the Hummer brand was discontinued as consumers opted for more fuel-efficient cars.
Now the Hummer is back as an all-electric sub-brand of GMC and is earning rave reviews for its performance. The 2022 Hummer EV Pickup holds an 8 out of 10 Car and Driver rating.
How much does the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup cost?
One thing the new Hummer does have in common with its predecessor is its hefty price tag.
The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup starts at a whopping $84,650—and that’s for the base trim! Hummer offers three higher-end trims. The costliest is the Hummer EV Edition 1, which boasts an extreme off-road package and costs an eye-popping $110,295.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is environmentally friendly and a beast! The Hummer EV Pickup’s top powertrain option has 1,000 horsepower and is driven by three electric motors. It has a range of up to 329 miles and can rocket from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds!
The truck sports removable roof panels, adjustable air-cooled suspension, and four-wheel steering that allows it to drive diagonally, all of which make it perfect for off-road adventures.
Plus, the Hummer EV Pickup features a stylish, space-age interior. The graphics for the 2022 Hummer EV Pickup’s infotainment system were designed by Epic Games, best known as the makers of the popular video game Fortnite. Its infotainment system is operated from a large 13.4-inch display.
How long does the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup take to charge?
GMC reports that the Hummer EV Pickup can add 16 miles in one hour of Level 2 charging, the most common charging speed. For comparison, the Rivian R1T can add 25 miles of range for every hour of Level 2 charging.
At 16 miles of charge per hour, “filling up” the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup takes almost a full day on a Level 2 charger. This is less than optimal given the vehicle’s hefty price tag.
However, the Hummer EV Pickup does have the option for DC fast charging, which can add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. Fast-charging stations are currently few and far between, though.
Hummer’s electric future
The Hummer electric brand appears to be here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. A year after announcing the Hummer EV Pickup, GMC unveiled its plans for a Hummer EV SUV, which is also now available for reservation.
The large electric vehicle market is still fairly new, and GMC is doing its best to make Hummer a big name in the arena. But if the carmaker desires to establish the Hummer EV Pickup as a leader in the electric truck market, its charging capacity will likely have to be improved.
