Jumping on the all-electric car bandwagon isn't an easy task for the world's automakers.
Mercedes-Benz
hopes to lead the way with the goal of producing exclusively electric vehicles by the end of the decade. Though no official end date has been given for its internal combustion engines.
The automobile industry as a whole is gearing up to embrace an all-electric car future. Mercedes-Benz is off to a good start. It plans to launch production of the much anticipated EQE model later this year. The
EQE Mercedes EV
was revealed at the IAA Mobility show last year to much acclaim.

When will we see more Mercedes EVs?

Mercedes production chief Joerg Burzer in an interview with
Reuters
stresses that converting to all-electric takes time. He says the company is anticipating ramping-up production of EVs following its EQE reveal in Bremen and Beijing later this year. The automaker expects far higher volumes to be delivered.
Like other automakers globally, Mercedes is slowly shifting investments toward electric-only pursuits. According to
KnowTechie
, the company is committing up to $47 billion to the development of battery-electric cars between 2022 and 2030. It is the beginning of the transition away from traditional combustion designs.
Only 2.3% of the luxury car company's sales last year consisted of electric-only vehicles. Add
plug-in hybrids
that combine both fuel and electric components and sales jumped up to 11%. Mercedes EVs seem only on the cusp of achieving widespread popularity.

Mercedes’ ambitious plans to electrify the entire manufacturing process

Mercedes-Benz takes the idea of electrification even further with its plans to apply it to the manufacturing process as well. In his interview with Reuters, Burzer says he sees factories switching to all-electric by the end of the decade. Battery production plants would also be moved closer to car assembly facilities for easier integration.
According to
Mercedes-Benz media
, its goals for future flexible manufacturing include the transformation to carbon-neutral production on its EV lines. This plan is slated to be accomplished by the end of 2022. It's an initiative that makes the German company stand out from the rest.
The automaker also hopes to install a new
battery recycling
plant in 2023 in Kuppenheim, Germany. Mercedes is set to be the trailblazer for sustainable auto manufacturing with an eye on eco-friendly advancement.

The importance of embracing an all-electric future

Electric cars are no longer just a novel niche in the automobile industry. Yet replacing fossil-fuelled cars is an enormous undertaking. Major car companies are ramping up production of what is turning out to be an electric revolution. It is proceeding at an incredible pace as
climate change concerns
and popular opinion take the forefront.
Mercedes EVs are a luxury car option and a driving force for environmental sustainability. As countries around the world continue to explore cleaner and less carbon-intensive transportation, automakers are rising to the occasion. Going green is going mainstream as consumers increasingly hope to plug it in rather than fill it up.
Burzer notes he expects the sales of Mercedes EVs and hybrids to make up about 50% of the company's sales by 2025. It will require enhanced manufacturing efficiency and technological innovation. There are still miles to go but the destination is right there on the horizon.
