The base model for the Mazda MX-30 starts at $34,695. But once Mazda’s first EV hits the mass market, it should qualify for an
electric car tax credit

This brings the Mazda MX-30 on par with the uber-affordable Chevy Bolt, which has a starting price of $25,600. And since Chevy (General Motors) already has an established electric vehicle division, they are no longer eligible for the tax credit.

What is the horsepower of a Mazda MX 30 EV?
Powered by a single electric motor, the Mazda MX-30 is only capable of producing 143 horsepower. It’s also only available in front-wheel-drive.
This is just a recipe for poor acceleration. In fact, it takes the MX-30 almost nine seconds to reach 60 mph. The Tesla Model 3 could virtually perform this feat three times over before the MX-30 does once.
But not all hope is lost! The MX-30 does share the same name prefix with Mazda’s MX-5 Miata sports car. This is a hat tip to the MX-30’s keen handling and sharp steering. So the building blocks are there, Mazda just needs to beef up the power!
What is the range of the Mazda MX 30 EV?
Well, prepared to be disappointed again. The tiny 30.0-kWh battery pack is only good for about 100 miles of all-electric range before it runs out of juice.
Considering most budget-friendly EVs average around 250 miles per charge, this is highly underwhelming — even the attractive sticker price doesn’t justify it.
