Hyundai’s 2022 Kona EV is priced starting at $35,295. The cost is pretty reasonable for any new car these days. It’s even more impressive given that it's an electric vehicle — and a highly rated one at that!
Hyundai is known for building quality, reliable vehicles, and the Kona is no exception. In fact, its standard gas model is quite the fan favorite. So when the electric vehicle (EV) model entered the market, it had a lot to live up to — and live up to it, it did.
This Hyundai’s performance may be pretty spectacular, but how much does the 2022 Kona EV cost? Here with the answer is

2022 Kona EV pricing information

The Kona EV may start at $35,295, but how much you spend depends on a few factors, namely the trim, packages, accessories, and add-ons you opt for.
If you get your Kona through Hyundai and add on all available fixings, you could pay as much as$44,560.

What is the cheapest Kona EV?

Hyundai used to offer three trims on the Kona, but recently it simplified its offerings to two trims: the base SEL and the upgraded Limited.
The base SEL starts at $35,295, while the upgraded Limited comes with a starting MSRP of $43,795.
For the $8,500 difference, you get a few extra features. But critics actually say if you want to get the most value out of your Kona, go with the base SEL.
The SEL powertrain comes equipped with a 201-horsepower electric motor and FWD, juiced up by its 64.0-kWh battery pack, which can last for up to 258 miles per charge.
Its motor can rev from 0 to 60 in just 6.4 seconds, which may not be a sexy stat if you’re looking for sports car speed. But for a subcompact SUV, this spec is nothing to balk at.
In addition to a solid engine, the SEL Kona EV offers:
  • BlueLink technology system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • 10.3-inch digital gauge display
  • 8.0-inch touchscreen
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Blind-spot monitoring and automated emergency braking
  • Gorgeous range of paint colors

Is a Kona EV worth it?

Ah, the question of a vehicle’s “worth.” As always, the answer really comes down to you and what you’re looking for in a vehicle.
Are you looking for a speed racer? Or a solid off-roading vehicle? Then, no, the Kona EV is probably not your ride.
But if you’re looking for a reliable, well-built, environmentally friendly, and budget-priced subcompact, then the Kona EV might just be your jam.
Consider the competition. Within the Hyundai family, the buzzy new Ioniq 5 starts at $42,000, a few grand above the Kona’s MSRP. Most of the Kona’s other EV peers outside of the Hyundai make are similarly priced.
Of course, you could take a look at the Tesla Model X, which starts at a staggering $122,440. And that price may seem worth it. Come on, it’s a Tesla!
Tesla did set the standard for EVs as we know them today. However, it’s worth noting: Car and Driver gave the Kona EV an 8.5/10, honoring it with a spot on its Editors’ Choice list. The Model X? A 6.5/10. Do with that info what you will.
Hot takes aside, let’s explore some of the Kona EV’s specs so you can better determine its overall value.

What is the horsepower of a Kona EV?

The Kona EV’s horsepower isn’t its sexiest spec—but hey, the Kona EV is no sports car. It's a solid subcompact SUV. This electric vehicle’s powertrain can rev its practical frame up to 201 horsepower, which can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds
Sure, this may not be sportscar-like acceleration. But consider this: its 6.4 seconds is 0.2 seconds faster than the EV’s gas-fueled twin’s performance, according to Car and Driver specs.

What is the range of the Kona EV?

The Kona EV’s top range is a decent 258 miles per charge. Of course, this range is subject to change based on context (i.e., your environment and driving style). Keep your foot on the pedal or drive your Kona EV through harsh weather conditions, and you could see a shorter range.

Is the Kona EV reliable?

Keeping true to the Hyundai brand, the Kona EV is an incredibly reliable vehicle. It drives well, it holds a solid charge, and it offers impressive fuel economy with a combined MPGe rating of 120 miles
Not to mention, the Kona EV’s warranty is truly a thing of beauty. (A beautiful warranty? What?)Here’s what you get:
  • Limited warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty: 10 years or 100,000 miles
  • Battery warranty: 10 years of 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary maintenance: 3 years or 36,000 miles
