The Jaguar I-PACE is
Jaguar’s
first foray into all-electric SUVs and started off with a bang, winning the World Car of the Year award when it debuted in 2019. The new 2022 model includes several improvements on that model, including faster charging times, but it comes with a couple of drawbacks, too.
Jerry’s
here with everything you need to know about the Jaguar I-PACE.

Jaguar I-PACE at a glance:

  • Price: Starts around $71,050
  • Range: 234-253 miles (EPA est.)
  • Availability: Currently available for purchase
  • Verdict: Smooth handling, instant acceleration, and a spacious interior make the Jaguar I-PACE a standout in luxury electric SUVs. However, its MPG equivalent compares unfavorably to other new EVs on the market, and the uneven braking leaves something to be desired.

What are the pros and cons of the Jaguar I-PACE?

Pro: Superb handling

The Jaguar I-PACE handles more like a sports car than an SUV, accelerating almost instantly and creating standard all-wheel drive with the help of two electric motors.
  • 0-60 mph time: about 4.5 seconds
  • Horsepower: 394 hp
  • Torque: 512 lb. ft.
Instant acceleration is an impressive feature in any case, but for an electric SUV, it’s incredible. Jaguar has gone above and beyond to ensure the I-PACE doesn’t just look like a luxury car but handles like one, too.

Pro: Luxurious interior and features

Jaguar outdid itself in decking out the I-PACE. Not only does it come with
leather upholstery
and climate control, but the manufacturers also included features like a 360-degree camera, a complimentary 4G data plan, and wireless charging inside the car.

Pro: Faster charging on newer models

The 2022 Jaguar I-PACE comes with a DC fast-charging port that allows the owner to recharge up to 80% of the battery in as little as 40 minutes.
Even with a typical power outlet, however, the new 2022 model can recharge a dead battery in 8.6 hours (compared to 12.6 hours in the previous model) thanks to a new 11.0-kW charger replacing the old 7.0-kW.

Con: Lower MPG equivalent

The Jaguar I-PACE has an estimated 76 MPGe. While this is comparable with the Audi e-Tron’s at 78 MPGe, both are significantly lower than most other new models on the market—the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge has an MPGe of 87 and costs about $12,000 less than the I-PACE.
While a 76 MPGe may be enough to get from one place to another, the Jaguar I-PACE still compares unfavorably to other luxury electric SUVs.

Con: Uneven braking

While the Jaguar I-PACE handles like a dream in virtually every other capacity, the brakes grind and crunch unevenly according to some critics.

How much does a Jaguar I-PACE cost?

The 2022 I-PACE starts at around $71,050. This model only offers one trim—the HSE—and is eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit.

What’s the range of the I-PACE?

With the aforementioned 2 electric motors, the I-PACE has an
estimated maximum range of 253 miles
, comparing favorably to the e-Tron and unfavorably to the Tesla Model Y, both of which retail for a similar price.
However, this might not be as much of a concern if the owner has access to a DC charger: what the I-PACE may lack in range, it more than makes up for in charging times when connected to a fast charger.

What are the different trims for the I-PACE?

While the 2022 I-PACE only has the single trim level, Jaguar made sure that it’s absolutely top-of-the-line, making it easy to choose the best option. Here’s what the 2022 model comes standard with:
  • A touch-sensitive infotainment system that can show you the location, cost, availability, and estimated charging time of nearby charging stations
  • Support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot
  • An 825-watt Meridian sound system
  • A 360-degree camera
  • A complimentary 4G data plan
  • Wireless charging
  • Climate control

What makes the Jaguar I-PACE special?

When the I-PACE first roared onto the scene in 2019, it was on the cutting edge of luxury electric SUVs. Since that time, others have followed in its footsteps—but the I-PACE is unmatchable in the specific luxury that Jaguar offers.
With improvements to the battery life, a rich interior, and features that you have to see to believe, the 2022 Jaguar I-PACE offers an electric version of everything that Jaguar represents, giving it a unique place among all other electric SUVs and certainly among other luxury cars.

How do similar vehicles compare?

The 2022 Audi e-Tron and the 2022 Tesla Model Y, both all-electric vehicles, share similar MSRPs with the Jaguar I-PACE.
The e-Tron has a more comfortable interior than the I-PACE but a lower range, while
the Model Y has a higher range
and a less comfortable interior. The I-PACE manages to fall in the middle: justifying the price tag with its interior comfort while maintaining a decent range.
