2018 Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid

The sporty 2018 CT6 was offered with an almost-new plug-in hybrid trim option. With the handling of a sports car, the 2018 CT6 PHEV was a compelling choice for Cadillac lovers looking for a more fuel-conscious option.
While it may not shine above the competition, this luxury PHEV stands out with its impressive driving dynamics, abundance of tech features, and classy styling.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the key details on the 2018 Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid.

Pricing

The 2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV is priced to reflect its status as a luxury vehicle. Compared to the 2018 CT6 base trim’s starting price of $55,090, the plug-in hybrid option rings in at $76,090. One trim level above this Cadillac PHEV, the Platinum, tops off at $85,290.
Today, a used 2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV has a fair market range of $34,500 to $39,500.

Performance and fuel economy

As you move up each of the CT6’s five trim levels, the engine performance steadily improves. However, there have been calls for Cadillac to equip the CT6 with more powerful engine options.
The plug-in hybrid CT6 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged hybrid powertrain that makes 335 hp and 432 lb-ft of torque. Its eight-speed automatic transmission has been known to suffer from a lack of smoothness at low speeds. It takes about nine hours to charge the electric battery on a 120-volt outlet or about five hours on a 240-volt outlet.
When operating at gas-only, the CT6 PHEV makes 26 mpg combined city/highway fuel economy but doubles to 62 MPGe when the electric power component is in play
What the 2018 Cadillac CT6 lacks in power, it makes up for in excellent handling and braking. While it may not beat the competition in terms of acceleration, it's still a speedy sedan that offers a satisfying drive with all the cushy benefits of a luxury vehicle.

Exterior styling

The 2018 Cadillac CT6’s exterior styling doesn’t disappoint. As a full-size sedan, it’s spacious and elegant. You can select from various optional exterior styling features ranging from illuminated door handles to a front-mounted license plate kit.
The 2018 CT6 comes in six color choices: Deep Amethyst Metallic, Crystal White Tricoat, Dark Chocolate Metallic, Bronze Dune Metallic, Moonstone Metallic, and Ebony Twilight Metallic.

Interior and comfort

The 2018 Cadillac CT6 interior, on the other hand, isn’t anything to write home about. The instrument panel is plain, and the air vents and center stack are unremarkable. Cadillac went a bit overboard, including all manner of materials on the dashboard, including metal trim, wood, carbon fiber, layers of leather, cloth coverings, and vinyl.
Where this Cadillac plug-in hybrid delivers is space. Its size allows for plenty of legroom—both in the front and back seats. Its trunk measures a respectable 15 cubic feet but would be bigger if not for the large battery pack in the plug-in hybrid option.

Technology

The Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system is straightforward, but the touchpad can be finicky. That being said, the CT6’s infotainment features certainly aren’t lacking. They include:
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Bluetooth
  • Apple Car Play and Android Auto phone integration
  • Wireless phone charging
  • USB ports
Navigation comes standard on the plug-in hybrid CT6. You can also add a 34-speaker Bose Panaray audio system to ramp up your speaker setup.

Warranty coverage

Cadillac’s warranty program is lacking compared to many others in the business and only applies to vehicles that are four years old or less. While your 2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV may still be eligible for a warranty–it won’t be for long. Regardless, this is what the original warranty includes:
  • Basic warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
  • Drivetrain warranty: six years or 70,000 miles
  • Hybrid warranty: eight years or 100,000 miles
  • Corrosion perforation warranty: six years with unlimited miles
  • Roadside warranty: six years or 70,000 miles

Trim levels and options

The Plug-In Hybrid is the fourth of five trims for the 2018 Cadillac CT6. The trims in order are Base,
Luxury, Premium Luxury, Plug-in Hybrid, and Platinum. The Plug-In Hybrid is the only option with a hybrid engine, and 2018 was the last year this trim level was offered.

The bottom line

The 2018 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid is a great choice for Cadillac lovers looking for a hybrid option. It has all the benefits of a large, luxury sedan… but does it live up to the competition? Let's take a look at how the CT6 compares to a couple of its hybrid competitors: the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV and the 2021 Kia Niro PHEV.

2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV vs. 2021 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV

How does the discontinued 2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV compare to one of its main competitors, the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV?
The Ioniq PHEV makes double the fuel economy compared to the CT6 PHEV: 52 mpg combined fuel economy on just gas, and 119 MPGe with gas and electric together. It’s also more affordable with a starting price of $27,705, more than half the price of the CT6. Naturally, the Cadillac CT6 comes equipped with more luxury features and materials, but even its charge time and warranty fall behind the Hyundai Ioniq

2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV vs. 2021 Kia Niro PHEV

Another one of the 2018 Cadillac CT6 PHEV’s major competitors is the
Kia Niro
PHEV, starting at $30,765
While the difference in performance isn’t as stark as what we see with the Hyundai Ioniq, the Kia Niro shines in its styling. Rather than a straight hatchback, the Niro is styled as a crossover, giving it a more sleek look. The Niro also has better fuel economy (gas only and combined) and a faster charge time than the 2018 CT6 plug-in hybrid.
The CT6 is much more expensive (again), but you get the benefits of luxury for the extra cost.
