These days, it seems like every time a friend gets a promotion they reward themselves with a
Tesla
. Though the wait time for their new toy is long, the American
electric vehicle
company has some exciting paint colors for consumers to look forward to.
When the Model S first came out, Tesla offered shoppers a variety of colors to choose from. But since then, the company has simplified its selection. What new offerings does the carmaker have up its sleeve for the 2022 market?

Tesla is starting to offer more color options

Choosing a paint color for your car is not only a way to express your personality, but it’s a practical decision as well. You want to consider what color hides scratches well, and what color will make mud even more visible when you’re back in the city after a
road trip
.
Find My Electric
has an extensive guide on Tesla colors of the past, and how to pick the right color for 2022. The Pearl White Multi-Coat is best for hiding scratches and has the lowest price tag. Since Silver Metallic is discontinued, the Pearl White is also an easy shade to maintain. As you can imagine, Solid Black is the hardest color to keep clean.
Deep Blue Metallic and the well-known Red Multi-coat look best during the day, and at night, Solid Black gives all the minimalist sophistication we could ever need. For the interior, there are three vegan leather/synthetic options to choose from. Keeping it neutral, Tesla offers All Black, Black and White, and Cream.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk teased the market with three new colors yet to be officially released: The Abyss Blue Multicoat, Mercury Silver Metallic, and Deep Crimson Multicoat. The blood-like Deep Crimson was spotted on Musk’s own Model S back in 2020. But we still don’t know which models these colors will be available on.

Can a paint color evoke negative emotions?

Red-colored cars are known to get pulled over more often, and some
insurance companies
charge a higher premium for shades they consider “risky.” As a result, many conscious consumers opt for colors that are perceived as safer, like silver or white.
Similar to choosing paint colors for your home, think about what you want the hue to convey. Do you want to come off as sophisticated? Trendy? Or would you rather blend in? Red might grab attention, while black is associated with wealth. There’s actually a lot of psychology behind colors that can evoke negative or positive moods
If you’re repainting a vintage car or one from the ‘80s, today’s paint offerings may not suit these classic cars. Some older shades may now be difficult to find, but if you’re willing to pay extra, custom colors are always an option.
While gold, yellow and brown are rising in popularity, the most popular colors are black, white, and silver/gray. But if a fun and funky color is more your style, make sure to consider your car type and model. A snazzy orange may look awesome on a
sports car
but on your Honda Civic? Not so much.

What else is new on the 2022 Tesla models?

According to
J.D. Power
, “the company continues to roll out over-the-air updatesfor its controversially named Full Self-Driving (FSD) Level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance, which is part of its Autopilot package of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).” Owners enrolled in the FSD Beta testing program are now being asked to allow it to record video inside and outside the vehicle.
The app also got some big updates. Waypoints and the Tidal app for music streaming are now included in the factory navigation system.
The 2022 Tesla Model 3 sedan is available in a “single-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) base trim level and dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) Long Range and Performance trims,” according to J.D. Power. There’s a slight increase in range on the base, and the EPA rated the models at 267 miles and 353 miles.
As far as the Model S, the luxury sedan comes in a dual-motor base trim level and the three-motor Plaid trim level with 19-inch wheels. It also gets 405 miles of range. The Model X crossover SUV has 20-inch wheels and is listed at around 351 miles. And like the Model S Plaid, the “the Tesla Model X Plaid gets an all-new computer similar to the design already used in the Models 3 and Y,” notes J.D. Power.
While the RWD Model Y Standard Range trim level has been discontinued in the U.S., the 2022 Tesla Model Y is available in dual-motor AWD Long Range and Performance trims. The range is listed at 318 miles as opposed to 236 miles on the 2021 model. The autos built in Tesla’s Texas production facility will have a larger battery-cell design and simplified under-body structure making it easier to mass-produce.
We’re excited to see the sci-fi-inspired Tesla Cybertruck, which is set to go into production later this year.
